  • Fall Garden Bliss

    September 21, 2012 /

Strangely, the garden is currently the most productive it has ever been. The pathways have been completely blocked by various vegetation thanks to heavy rainfall that has led to vigorous growth. I haven’t been fertilizing, but the garden doesn’t seem to mind as nearly every square foot has been used to grow various types of beans and each morning I chuck a coffee filter bomb out the back door to a new spot in the garden. Being the first year…

  • Disillusionment with the Church

    September 17, 2012 /

When Joe and I first came to Vintage21 Church in 2002, there was great hope. As the body grew and the church gained momentum, we felt a part of something larger than ourselves. People gave selflessly of their time and resources. Community was easy, on some levels at least, because it was fun. But as with all relationships, newness wore off. People made mistakes. Feelings got hurt. At times they got really hurt and people left. There were times seeing…

  • Caterpillars!

    September 17, 2012 /

While I’m not interested in the plants in my garden simply being bug food, I do occasionally make an exception for caterpillars, at least the ones that become beautiful butterflies, beauty to be determined by my own subjective assessment. A couple weeks ago, there were several Black Swallowtails floating around the garden, and now there is a whole batch of caterpillars chubbing up on my rue plant. Each morning I go out to eye the plant to see whether it…

    September 15, 2012 /

This moth was hanging out at the front door. Photographing him brought to light that I should probably start vacuuming around the baseboards.

  • Sick

    September 14, 2012 /

So today I called in sick – as in, other that a short trip out to the garden and setting the boys up with sippy cups and the tv, I managed to stay in bed until nap time. Wookie’s seemingly harmless sniffles proved to be a whack with a 2×4 to my head, and I found myself with sniffles, very itchy throat and a fever. I love that the boys for the most part have been gracious towards me, letting…
