  • Milburnie Dam Demolition Part 2

    November 19, 2017 /

Saturday morning, we opted to skip the Christmas parade, and Joe and the kids played video games instead. By 10:30 am, I was chomping at the bit to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Joe had not yet seen the Milburnie Dam demolition, so we went out for a hike. I love being in the woods with Joe, because he always finds new things to explore. We went around the dam to the side I had not yet ventured…

  • Milburnie Dam Demolition Part 1

    November 17, 2017 /

One of the joys of being a work-at-home mom is that when events show up in my news feed, I can drop everything and go on an adventure. This happened with the cathedral dome rising back in March of 2016. I showed up with a small crowd of onlookers and got to witness the placement of a copper dome that would outlive generations to come. Yesterday I saw a post about the demolition of the historic Milburnie Dam on the…

  • New Pots

    November 5, 2017 /

This fall I took a class “Throwing and Altering” at the NC State Crafts Center. I didn’t do a good job altering, but I still had a fun time. These are my finished pots. I’m stilling waiting on another two to finish firing. There’s probably another sneaking around the studio without my name and number written large enough. I’ll have to track her down. They were fired in a gas kiln to cone 10. The mugs weren’t altered at all.…

    November 4, 2017 /

I spend a lot of time outdoors gardening, taking the kids to the park, and watching the chickens, and after 36 years, my age, the sun and hormones are getting the best of me. This isn’t really something sudden. I’ve always been loaded with freckles and have struggled with hormonal acne since college. I remember my freshman year being up at 2 am, really homesick, and watching an infomercial for Proactiv and making my first purchase over the phone. I’ve…

  • Neighborhood Watch

    November 1, 2017 /

There have been many break-ins in our neighborhood over the past few months in broad daylight, and according to the police, it’s a group of kids. Both of my across-the-street neighbors have been targeted, as well as an elderly couple’s house behind ours. I took the neighbor behind us a rotisserie chicken the day she had to go to the bank and change all her accounts. She asked if I still had chickens in my backyard, which cracked us both…
