Hand Building Class

My first course in hand building is over now, although I’m still finishing up several pieces over at Pullen Arts Center. I’ve only ever used the wheel, tending to think hand building wouldn’t interest me, but I have to admit that I really enjoy it. Pressing texture into the clay is much easier with a rolling pin, which doesn’t work so well on a round pot. It also is easier on my shoulder, which has chronic pain and is agitated by time on the wheel.

I now want to rework my studio space so there is a spot to roll some slabs for hand building. There would need to be a fairly sturdy table topped in canvas. I’m sure Joe could build something, but I’ll check out thrift stores anyhow. Wood isn’t cheap! I was happy with how the pieces turned out, especially the shino glaze.
