Heart A’busting - Euonymus Americanus Look what I found while plugging in new plants! This is definitely not a bullfrog. It may be a Southern Leopard Frog. I finally joined the NC Native Plant Society so I could go on “plant rescues”, meet like-minded people and hopefully learn a few things. These rescues are trips to sites about to be cleared and leveled for building developments, with express permission from the property owner for the group at a set time. I attended my second rescue yesterday. While it’s exciting to get to dig up plants to take home to my own yard, it’s also really sad to walk through woodlands and know they are about to be razed. I came home with spicebush, pawpaw, Christmas ferns, moss, rattlesnake orchid and spleenwort. Other members dug up blueberry bushes, umbrella magnolia, a crane fly orchid and other things I didn’t catch the names of. If you are interested in joining, I’d encourage you to do it. You don’t have to know Latin names of plants (I sure don’t), and you can participate at whatever level you have time for. I thought it might just be for retirees, but at yesterday’s rescue, there were all ages. Check them out if only just to get ideas of what to add to your yard that will help the local pollinators.
