Pottery Preview
This morning we had one last kiln opening for the season. Tomorrow is the Rock & Shop Market in Durham, NC, and I’m happy to say I have plenty inventory for the show. Earlier this week I stopped by Helping Hand Mission and picked up a shelf that will give my table some more vertical interest and space for display. Lessons Learned from the Sale
First, I am so thankful for chance to be at this show. The Handmade Market is huge and well run, and getting a table can be very competitive. The Handmaidens are so professional and talented, and the day seemed to go off without a hitch. For me, the show went mostly well. The past several weeks we have been in high production *for the first time ever* with multiple firings during the week. This kiln has seen more use in the past month that it has seen in the past three years under my care. Kiln Opening
In this weekend’s glaze firing, the colors came out more subtle with some browns, royal blues and indigo. After the glaze ran all over the kiln last week, I was much more conservative in the glaze application. Chun red appears gray on the brown body clays rather than white. I’m not sure if the Indigo Float was applied too thinly or if the kiln didn’t fire hot enough to fully float the blue, but the color didn’t pop like it…
