Renee’s Garden Seeds
Renee’s Garden Seeds! I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve been sampling Renee’s Garden seeds and sharing pictures of the produce for several years now, and every year I anxiously await picking out new seeds to try each winter as I prep for Spring planting. Some of my favorite garden varieties come from this company: Trombeta Squash, Slow-Bolt cilantro, Italian Pesto Basil. Each year, Renee introduces new varieties, and I enjoy trying a few of them and a few of my proven favorites. I can also count on my favorite local garden shop, Logan’s, to carry Renee’s Garden seeds.
New introductions are currently 15% off through February 15 (this link goes to Renee’s new introductions). I picked out four to try. My chickens love cabbage, so I selected “Conehead” cabbage. I recently picked up some tall white fan trellises from Habitat Restore, and for those I chose Tall Snap Peas for those. The Green Curls Container Kale caught my attention because I have a few containers that need new life. Finally, I chose an weather tolerant and disease resistance cucumber – Patty’s Marketmore.
This year, I want to focus on disease resistant varieties of tomatoes. I selected three varieties – one we loved the past two summers (Big Beef) and two new-to-us varieties. I don’t usually grow grape tomatoes, but they are touted as “Extremely disease- resistant and widely adapted vines”, so I’m going to give them a try! These all look delicious:
Three more packets I selected – a truly lovely kale we’ve had great success with, edamame, and bulbing fennel. I’ve grown a sweet fennel before and have golden fennel that keeps coming back, but I wanted to try this bulbing type as my parents raved over a meal kit that included fennel bulbs.
