Beautiful Floaty Me
“My happiest moment was today at the awards ceremony when I looked up and saw you and we hugged and kissed. You looked beautiful. I thought you were so beautiful. What were you wearing again?”
“A gray sweater, gray pants and a purple scarf.”
“You were beautiful, mom. (Pauses and ponders) And you had that skin right there (points to hip) and it looked like you were wearing a floaty.”
“What!? You aren’t supposed to say that!”
“But it did! It looked like a floaty. Right there. You did look beautiful… You know (matter-of-fact voice) if you just pulled up your pants some it would go back in and wouldn’t look like a floaty anymore.”
Please note, the sweater was long. The “skin” was the belly bulge or muffin top. That conversation was going so sweetly for a moment, but I’ve got to say he didn’t bat an eyelash, so I’ll take the beautiful comment as his genuine belief. Seven-year-olds are amazing.
