Attainable Goals for 2012
For 2012, I’m avoiding mapping out identity shaping goals, goals that I have no way of measuring, and goals that imply my previous person has been inadequate. I just wanted a short list of things I’d like to get done. If I added something like “be more intentional with the boys,” that would just put me on a path of endless self-critique and comparisons to other moms and ultimately feelings of inadequacy. So I’m keeping it sweet and simple. The deep stuff will be left to God and His merciful and time-appropriate work in my heart.
1. Have a table at a craft or pottery show away from home.
2. Build a play fort in the back yard for the boys at nearly zero cost.
3. Plan and implement a more robust composting system for our household.
Happy New Year!

I am feeling the same way. I have a few goals that are mostly professional. Other than that, I am not going to get real specific.

Those are great goals, and I'll bet you will accomplish them! When I set concrete goals like that, I'll write them in a notebook and give each one several pages where I brainstorm and break each goal way down into what needs to happen and what I need to do reach those goals — and develop a plan of simple incremental steps, which I can then focus on each day or week or whatever to accomplish the ultimate goal. That actually keeps me moving towards the chosen goal.

Diana, my temptation is to try and tackle them all next week. A list of steps or a timeline would be good for me.
